swim with whale sharks in la paz
Whale Sharks in la paz, baja california
Each year, hundreds of whale sharks migrate to the Bahia de La Paz, a marine reserve located in the Sea of Cortez. With the largest whale shark ever recorded growing to 18.8m (61.7 ft) in length they are the largest fish in the world! Although here in La Paz we generally only see juveniles, you can feel dwarfed by their sheer size! They are filter feeders and cause no harm to humans. They prefer to eat predominantly plankton, small fish and squid. Whale sharks feed by taking in huge amounts of water and filtering the food out for digestion, sometimes, if you are lucky, you can see the whale sharks almost vertically gulping in large amounts of water and food.
