Sea of Cortez Snorkeling Adventure

la ventana snorkel tour description

Discover the hidden gem of Baja - a small fisherman village with a big personality! Join us on an adventure to explore the rich marine life of the Sea of Cortez.

This is an adventure tour, not your typical beach hopping tour - the majority of the snorkeling tour will be in the boat scouring the Sea of Cortez and hopefully interacting with big marine life. If there isn’t much action with the big animals then we will snorkel some of the reefs too, we like to tailor the tours to what each group wants to prioritise, so let us know what you're most interested in seeing :)

Book your Sea of Cortez snorkeling adventure today to uncover the best-kept secret in Baja California, away from the crowds of Cabo, La Paz, and Todos Santos.

*Swimming with whales in Mexico is not permitted.

What Animals can you see?

The Sea of Cortez wasn’t called the World’s Aquarium by Jacques Cousteau for nothing! Isla Cerralvo is Baja California’s most southern Island in the California Gulf, making it a meeting point for megafauna and pelagic fish. Every day is a surprise and you can see different marine life throughout each season of the year.

We have amazing wildlife ALL YEAR ROUND! Below are the main seasons, but the two months on either side can still be great, and animals can pop up randomly, even when it’s not the season!!

Tap the + to expand…

  • · Humpback, Blue, Fin, Gray: December - Early May

    · Brydes: July-Sept. Prefer warmer water

    · Sperm: June - November, but pop up randomly throughout the year

  • · Main season: April - June

    · Sub Season: November - January

  • · June - October

  • · All year around

Why
Baja Wild Encounters?

  • We work with local fisherman, so we have a great relationship with them. When they see some wildlife, they let us know too, so you have the best chance of spotting wildlife with us!

  • Not only do you see the wildlife but also to learn about and interact with them in a way that is respectful and responsible.

  • The animals come first, we won’t harass them, if they don’t want us to play, we will observe from a safe distance.

  • We guarantee to pay a fair and above average salary to the locals we work with.

  • We use a drone to search for and keep sight of animals - weather and availability dependent… and you get cool footage to share too!

  • We want you to remember and share your experience with friends and family. So pictures and videos are included and will be sent after your tour.

  • We offer food and water on all tours unless stated! Please let us know ahead of time for any food restrictions.

  • Baja has a sunny, dry climate and only sees about 25cm/10 inches of rain in an entire year. Most of this rain falls from late August through September. The rest of the year we barely see rain.

Wind Season: Mid November to Mid April - during this time often the mornings are calm and the wind tends to pick up around 11 - we can still get shelter from the wind in various areas of the bay, don’t worry :) If the wind reports show the wind to be too strong and not enjoyable we will have to reschedule the trip.

We do still have days and even weeks with low wind where the conditions are great!
